Summary: The aims are: i) to investigate the relationship between the cash economy, inflation and unemployment ii) to propose a hypothesis that contributes to explaining the phenomenon of stagflation (the simultaneous increase in inflation and unemployment) that ocurred during the early 1970's as a result of a growing cash economy iii) to provide important background for an external research grant application to address the costs of the cash economy on welfare payments
