Mechanism of host-cell invasion by Babesia bovis

Project Member(s): Johnson, A.

Start year: 2001

Summary: SImilarities among apicomplexan protozoan parasites are based on common apical organelles and many similarities among these species of parasites can be demonstrated during the host-cell invasion process. It has been established that an actomyosin motor propels Toxoplasma gondii tachyvoites into host cells, so this research will investigate the presence of an actomyosin invasion moto in Babesia bovis, an important parasite of cattle.
