Metallisation of polymers assisted by ion implanation
Funding or Partner Organisation: Australian Institute of Nuclear Science & Engineering (AINSE grants)
Start year: 1998
Summary: This project is the continuation of an AINSE supported project on new metallisation methods of polymers for biomedical applications. The objective is to evaluate a new method to deposit a welladhered and ultra-thin metal film on polymers by ion implantation, which can act as a catalyst for the subsequent electroless deposition of metals to a desired thickness by electroless plating. The ultimate aim is to develop metal coated polymer with excellent adhesion which is suitable for use as implantable electrodes in medical devices.
