Identification and analysis of urban tourism issues
Project Member(s): Darcy, S., Veal, A.
Funding or Partner Organisation: CRC for Sustainable Tourism (Cooperative Research Centre In Sustainable Tourism)
Start year: 2000
Summary: The current structure of sub-programs under the CRC excludes any specific attention being paid to tourism in urban areas or cultural aspects of tourism which are concentrated in urban areas. This project seeks to begin the process of redressing this imbalance by formulating a research agenda which will guide the investigation of tourism in Australian cities. It is anticipated that this research agenda will encompass various aspects of tourism within cities, including the patterns of development, the behaviour of tourists, the integration between tourism and local leisure provision, the impacts of tourism, and the functions of cities within the national tourism system.
