Summary: The effects of short- and longer-term exposures of selected Australian freshwater organisms to three previously unstudied pesticides (individually and in mixtures) will be reported and used to assess regulations concerning the concurrent application of combinations of pesticides. This progresses existing Australian leadership in water quality management using applied ecotoxicology by addressing increasing environmental realism in several dimensions: the use of local organisms from different trophic levels, the inclusion of riverine species; longer-term experimental exposures and exposure to mixtures as well as little-known single substances. In addition three new water quality guidelines will be developed. ''
