Application of Sustainability Principles to Housing, Product Stewardship, Business and Social analyse

Project Member(s): Benn, S.

Funding or Partner Organisation: Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN Research Grants)

Start year: 2005

Summary: The proposal focuses on three, related, sub-themes spanning technological, social and economic approaches to sustainability. Product stewardship addresses manufacturers extended responsibility for a product over its life-cycle with the goal of using natural resources more effectively. Sustainable housing incorporates smart housing and appliance design for better energy and water use, and waste minimisation in the construction and use stages. It also considers associated urban planning and transportation issues. Business, economic and social analyses will examine the necessary changes in the market place and the society. The program will establish direct links between key sustainability centres/institutes within the 5 ATN Universities.
