The impact of location-specific urban digital social information networks and public displays on the City of Melbourne

Funding or Partner Organisation: Australian Research Council (ARC Linkage Projects)

Start year: 2011

Summary: The 21st Century city can inform its on-the-go citizens and tourists far more intimately than ever before. For the first time converging digital technologies afford a direct relationship between information picked-up on mobile devices and real-time location-based information illuminating large public urban screens. Our vision is to drape the city with a digital layer of information to enhance urban vibrancy, creativity and quality of life by exploiting the latest advances in GPS smart phones, urban screens, and social information networks. With our Linkage Partners we will research through experiment to assess this vision using Melbourne as our living laboratory.
