Iron sources and cycling in the Tasman Sea

Funding: 2011: $100,000
2012: $90,000
2013: $90,000

Funding or Partner Organisation: Australian Research Council (ARC Discovery Projects)

Start year: 2011

Summary: Determining factors that influence the health and vitality of coastal and open-ocean regions is crucial to maintaining marine biodiversity and the Earth's climate balance. This research project will determine the role iron plays in influencing phytoplankton growth, which ultimately regulates the drawdown of carbon dioxide by the oceans.

Keywords: ocean productivity, phytoplankton, chemical oceanography, biological oceanography, iron fertilisation, iron isotopes

FOR Codes: Antarctic and Sub-Antarctic Oceanography, Marine Oceanic Processes (excl. climate related), Oceanography, Antarctic and Southern Ocean oceanic processes, Oceanic processes (excl. in the Antarctic and Southern Ocean)
