Summary: Integrated quantum photonic technologies hold a great promise to deliver high performance devices with reduced power consumption. Point defects in diamond and other wide bandgap semiconductors are attractive in this regard as they can emit single photons on demand. However, the realization of nanophotonic devices from these materials is hindered by fabrication challenges. This project will focus on developing novel fabrication strategies to realize nanophotonics entities such as optical cavities, resonators and waveguides made of wide bandgap semiconductors. The nanometre scale architecture is a key component for novel devices such as low power lasers, molecular sensors, optical interconnects and high efficiency light emitters.
