Continuing Professional Development in female genital mutilation/cutting for healthcare professionals (CT12398)

Project Member(s): Dawson, A., Homer, C.

Funding or Partner Organisation: Commonwealth Department of Health (Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care: C)

Start year: 2013

Summary: The project will involve the development and evaluation of an online module / CD ROM on FGM/C to equip health professionals to make an accurate diagnosis of FGM/C, be able to discuss the topic with women with FGM/C, provide accurate information and management regarding complications, de-infibulation and obstetric care. The module will increase healthcare professional understanding of FGM/C, its consequences and cultural traditions that underpin it, to improve support for girls and women affected by, or at risk of, FGM/C. Our module will serve to inform FGM/C continuing professional development for all health professionals, including general practitioners, midwives and sexual health nurses.
