Generally accepted practices of public relations and communication management study (Australia)
Project Member(s): Macnamara, J.
Start year: 2013
Summary: The Strategic Communication and Public Relations Center at the University of Southern California (USC) Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, in partnership with the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management (GA) conducts a biennial survey in the US of Generally Accepted Practices in the public relations and corporate communication field (known as the GAP study). The study has been conducted every two years sine 2002. In early 2013, the Global Alliance announced that the survey would go global and countries were invited to submit proposals on conduct of the survey. The Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) invited UTS Public Communication to be its partner in conducting the biennial GAP study in Australia. This will be part of the world¿s first ongoing global study of public relations and communication management practice, commencing wiht the 8th GAP study to be conducted in late 2013 and released in 2014. PRIA and UTS agreed that the 8th GAP study in Australia would be unfunded in 2013-2014, during which time a sponsor/s will be sought for future studies. In 2013-2014, PRIA will provide all promotion of the survey to its member nationally and USC Annenberg will provide the survey instrument. UTS will collect and analyse the data and co-author a country report for inclusion in the international report. Participation in the study provides UTS with a close strategic alliance with the PRIA, the national accrediting body for public relations practitioners in Australia, and with the prestigious University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. UTS staff will have academic publication rights for the data, so research outputs will be produced.
