The Forgotten Half: The Experience of Indigenous Australian Women in Sport and Physical Activity
Project Member(s): Pearce, S., Stronach, M.
Start year: 2014
Summary: Why are Indigenous Australian women less likely to participate in sport and physical activity than Indigenous men or other Australian women? To date, there has been little attempt to understand or document the meaning, place and experiences of sport and physical activity for Indigenous women (unlike their male counterparts). The research explores the contribution that sport and physical activity can make to the health and wellbeing of these women. Policies and programs used to support and encourage Indigenous Australian women¿s participation in sport and physical activity will be evaluated in the light of their experiences, needs, wants and desires.
