Summary: The project aims to develop and test a 1 m3/day capacity pilot-scale integrated forward osmosis and reverse osmosis (FO-RO) system for treatment of wastewater produced during coal mining operations using FO membranes developed by Haji industries Inc. The specific objectives are: -Design, fabricate and test a modular type pilot size integrated FO -RO hybrid system -Conduct treatment trials to determine optimum operating conditions using mining wastewater with/without requiring extensive pre-treatment system -Explore and identify a suitable draw solute for the FO process
