Comparative Analysis of Westfield Group Tax Avoidance Proxies

Summary: In Australia, Westfield has not come into significant prominence for tax avoidance. While it has been at the ¿pointy¿ end of lobbying for amendments that are favourable to its tax position, it has not been the target of any major ATO investigations or media attention. There have been cases involving members of the Lowy family in the US that examined the use of trusts and tax havens, but nothing that involved the Westfield Group. However, this does not mean that Westfield is not involved in tax aggressive activities, as tax avoidance is both hard to detect and difficult to measure. Therefore the aim of this project is to estimate the tax avoidance of Westfield Group and to compare the outcomes with other firms in the industry.
