How to value and cost health costs and outcomes

Summary: CHERE will provide the Authority with a written report detailing how to value and cost health costs and outcomes. The report must provide guidance for the Authority on how to calculate these values and costs for a range of illnesses and health outcomes. The report must enable the Authority to extend its cost of illness costing modelling beyond illness caused by pathogens to other health outcomes linked to food. It is expected that the report will be between twenty and fifty pages. The report must include guidance on the following matters, among others: ¿ undertaking clinician interviews to establish likely health outcomes; ¿ establishing Quality Adjusted Life Years values for various conditions; ¿ what literature should be consulted and how it should be searched; ¿ establishing costs for treatments and various other health resources likely to be expended eg. doctor visits, diagnostic tests, medication and stays in hospital.
