Summary: This project intends to implement and empirically test nurse retention strategies to provide evidence about which strategies are effective to ensure an adequate nursing workforce to meet future health care needs. There is over a decade of evidence linking nurse staffing to quality health care and improved patient outcomes. However, many western nations are anticipating significant nursing shortages, taking effect from 2016 and becoming extreme from 2025. Data indicates that the most significant lever that can be used to address the anticipated shortages is improving nurse retention.
