Summary: This research project includes an explorative study into the role of human-centred design in public sector innovation practices (1), attending the 2016 Design Research Society conference (2), and a visit to the Hong Kong PolyU Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation (3): 1. Study Purpose: to investigate what the role is of design principles in contemporary public sector innovation practices in the world (see below for an elaborate description of the study). When: January/ April 2016 How: visiting five international social innovation labs (Denmark, the Netherlands, UK, US, and Australia) that work with social sector organisations on addressing a complex societal problem, and investigate through a retrospective case study methodology how design contributes to their practice. Indicative costing: $11,500 2. DRS Conference Purpose: To attend the 50th Design Research Society¿s conference to organise a theme session on `Design Innovation for Society¿ and to present a paper. When: June 2016 Indicative costing: $5,500 3. Visit Hong Kong Polytechnic University Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation Purpose: to visit this UTS KTP partner to explore opportunities for research collaborations and to learn from their approach towards design-based social innovation.
