Stakeholder sentiments towards biosolids reuse

Summary: Sydney Water contracted the Centre to undertake stakeholder research into biosolids reuse. The research established stakeholder sentiment towards biosolids reuse in a range of applications, and ways to educate, engage and communicate with stakeholders and the community to build support for biosolids reuse. The methodology included a desktop review of national and international research into attitudes and perceptions towards biosolids, and stakeholder and community education, engagement and communication strategies for biosolids; in-depth interviews with 80 stakeholders (i.e. councils, farmers, environmental and resident groups etc.) across NSW; and seven case studies of different approaches to managing and changing stakeholder and community sentiment towards biosolids reuse. Project outcomes included a series of recommendations on developing community and stakeholder education, engagement and communication strategies to build support for biosolids reuse.
