Summary: Emissions from urban traffic are a main cause of air pollution in cities around the world, and are causing adverse effects in human health including fatality. Vertical remote sensing (VES) is a new technology that offers incomparable advantages over the currently being used horizontal remote sensing system for the rapid detection of vehicle emissions. This project aims to use VES to measure diesel vehicle emissions, and assess the feasibility and accuracy performance of different VES configurations. Therefore, the main objectives of this project are: (1) Evaluating the accuracy performance of different VES configurations under single-lane traffic conditions, and (2) Processing, analysing and visualising the data collected. The research findings will establish the basis for a framework of remote sensing devices in urban setting.
