Summary: The big data analytics is no doubt beneficial for business development. However, at the same time, numerous threats such as attacks on message and device integrity, the vulnerability of IoT devices to malware attacks, physical compromise of devices and threats to user privacy pose a great danger to the sustenance of IoT. As such, it is timely to develop a security mechanism for IoT systems to ensure the integrity of data and the devices. This research aims to highlight a range of possible threats to IoT with a focus on attack methodology adopted by some of the most successful real-world attacks on IoT affecting the integrity of data and the underlying devices. This research also aims to analyse the implementation of blockchain technology in IoT to protect IoT systems against data and device integrity attacks.
