Start year: 2021

Summary: This project aims to transform the solid waste management industry through interdisciplinary research to develop and translate solutions for each of the challenging waste streams. Australia generates around 67 million tonnes of waste per annum and the recycling rates are still at 30%, with landfills reaching capacity in 2025. Solutions require a consideration of alternative solutions and rigorous scientific research to develop a supporting evidence base in collaboration with the key stakeholders in the recovery chain of waste. The hub will deliver novel materials, accelerated testing methods, predictive modeling, circular life cycle costing and translation field trials, creating new opportunities and addressing procurement challenges.
