Start year: 2020

Summary: The project objective is to construct a prototype magnetometer containing the optical, microwave and electronic components to control and read-out electronic signals from a diamond quantum sensor. We have researched and consulted on the state of the art in navigation, and the technology landscape associated with competitive quantum-based solutions, and have developed a set of targets for sensitivity, size, weight and power: • Sensitivity: 50 - 100 nT/√Hz (Phase 2 target 0.5-1 nT/√Hz) • Maximum size: 35 cm X 15 cm X 15 cm • Weight: <15kG • Power: <5W • TRL: 4 to 5 While the targets are ambitious, our team’s expertise across all aspects of this project could not be a better match and together we plan to deliver an integrated device comprising: • A custom designed CMOS and FPGA controlled diamond quantum sensor • Packaged, portable and testable in a bench-top situation, initially powered with 240V AC input

FOR Codes: Lasers and Quantum Electronics, Microelectronics and Integrated Circuits, Emerging Defence Technologies, Microelectronics
