Summary: The battery-operated hand-held fan is a cheap and effective non-pharmacological intervention for chronic breathlessness in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, it is rarely recommended to patients by respiratory clinicians for reasons that are unclear. This project will: 1) conduct focus groups with respiratory clinicians to understand barriers/facilitators to recommending the hand-held fan for chronic breathlessness; 2) use focus group results to design brief training materials that will encourage clinicians to do so; and 3) inform a future funding application for a larger multi-site study that will evaluate the brief training materials as part of a larger package.
