Summary: The proposed project builds upon an existing industry focused research project with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), the Climate Change Cluster Research Institute (C3) and Young Henrys (industry partner) which aims to identify microalgal species that, when added to BSG, can confer a nutritional benefit to the feedstuff, as well as reduce methane (CH4) output from cattle. This is a step towards developing a circular bioeconomy for brewery waste (where both BSG and CO2 are re-used), whilst developing a cost-effective, commercialisable, ruminant feed supplement. The proposed project seeks to establish feeding trials with a suitable partner to verify in vitro ruminant fermentation findings and nutritional benefit beyond CH4 reduction, and to develop a scaleable methodology for addressing engineering and implementation challenges.
