Summary: This project aims to develop novel structural concrete made with over 85% waste glass and use this concrete in manufacturing sustainable concrete-filled steel columns. Because of limited established markets for recycled glass, significant stockpiling of recycled and recyclable glass currently exists across Australia, which has become a significant issue. This study will provide a suite of novel solutions to maximise the use of waste glass in structural concrete by fully replacing sand and gravel with crushed glass and replacing up to 75% cement with glass powder. This will provide practical solutions to address not only the Australia's glass recycling crisis but also a worldwide issue for the disposal of waste glass.
