Start year: 2023

Summary: Mineral Carbonation is a new technology that converts CO2 to useful solid materials by reacting it with magnesium or calcium silicate rocks. Amorphous silica is produced as a by-product of the process; the proposed project seeks to assess the suitability of this amorphous silica for use as a supplementary cementitious material addition in concrete and cement. The products developed have the potential to reduce the cost and CO2 footprint of cement and concrete and improve both cement and concrete performance.
