Start year: 2021
Summary: This exciting opportunity is a collaborative partnership between the Freshwater and Estuarine Research Group at the University of Technology Sydney and WaterNSW, the primary bulk water supplier in NSW. This applied research project will explore linkages between macrophyte ecology and water quality in the operational context of a drinking water supply reservoir. Lake Prospect is a key asset in Sydney’s water supply network with high strategic and operational importance, as well as unique environmental features that include extensive macrophyte beds. This project will investigate ecological drivers of water quality in Lake Prospect, with a focus on allelopathic interactions between macrophytes and potentially toxic cyanobacteria. The outcomes from this research will support water quality management for Lake Prospect by building knowledge of the ecological pathways through which macrophytes influence water quality and treatability.
