Summary: The University of Canberra (UC) proposes the project called “The Minderoo Climate Resilient Housing Toolkit – Making It Work for Older Australians” in partnership with University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and is partnering and collaborating with the Bega Valley and Noosa Shire LGAs to apply for The Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants program. This project will implement the existing Minderoo Climate Resilient Housing Toolkit for participating older Australians in the Bega and Noosa LGAs. The Toolkit was developed by the Canberra Region Joint Organisation (CRJO) to help property owners get back on their feet and improve their bushfire resilience, with the aim of reducing risk and stress for the future, and providing opportunities for lowering insurance premiums. The project will trial the Toolkit with older Australians in two climatic and fire risk zones, assisting the trial participants with decision making for their properties and using their input to maximise the Toolkit’s accessibility and practicality for this demographic.
