Summary: This project proposes an integrated laboratory-field-numerical approach to investigate performance of flexible pavements using construction and demolition (C&D) waste materials such as concrete, bricks with gravel, and recycled glass. Laboratory investigations shall include the testing of C&D waste blended gravel materials as per the relevant industry specifications. An array of mix design procedures along with 3D printed C&D products shall be useful for practice. Advanced numerical models and field trials will help evaluate performance based design vs prescriptive specifications. The project enables to use road surface records using smartphones, geotechnical data from field sensors, geospatial data and the machine learning algorithms to monitor roads for defects that pose a safety risk, and to offer maintenance data to relevant authorities.
