Start year: 2022

Summary: The production of oysters in NSW is hampered by bottlenecks in larval development. Within aquaculture systems, a large proportion of larvae stop feeding and growing, and eventually die. We suspect that bacterial pathogens may be involved in these issues. This project will work with oyster producers on the NSW mid north coast to investigate the potential for bacterial pathogens to affect oyster larvae. Samples of both water and larvae will be collected by oyster producers. These samples will then be analysed at UTS and the bacterial pathogens investigated.
