Summary: This project aims to develop atomically dispersed high-entropy materials to enable production of renewable hydrogen from water splitting at low cost. The main tasks of this project include: 1. Rationally designing three different types of atomically dispersed high-entropy materials for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in acidic and alkaline solutions. 2. Screening various metal atoms and figuring out the most suitable metal elements, and identifying the synergistic effect between the multiple elements in atomically dispersed high-entropy materials. 3. Mechanistic understanding of HER on atomically dispersed high-entropy materials through in-situ characterisation technique to disclose the relationship between structure-activity properties to identify the active sites. 4. Assembling prototype water electrolyser based on proton exchange membrane (PEM, acidic) and anion exchange membrane (AEM, alkaline) using the optimised catalysts to achieve highly efficient hydrogen production.
