Novel bio-based bead development for DAC - Southern Green Gas

Start year: 2024

Summary: Working to co-develop a novel bio-based (macroalgae) porous bead for integration into an existing DAC system. Replace polystyrene bead with an algae-based hydrocolloid (agar/agarose/alginate/carrageenan) and/or chitosan with the same or acceptably similar physical and chemical properties. The extraction process for the compounds should produce minimal waste, and ideally use green chemistry methodology. This project would be in collaboration with the University of Sydney (USyd).
