STUDY OF SIGNALS FROM LEO CONSTELLATIONS FOR SIGNALS OF OPPORTUNITY APPLICATIONS

Start year: 2024

Summary: A signal transmitted by a satellite, bounced off the earth’s surface and recorded, is a method of remote sensing called ”reflectometry”. The use of communications signals from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites for this purpose is a very new idea, but also very exciting due to the huge number of these signals becoming available. This project will characterise the remote sensing applications that will benefit most from each of the different available signals, design an appropriate receiver, and test the characterisation made earlier. Significant follow-on and spin-off opportunities exist.
