Design and development of a calibration device for accessories used in delivery of First Aid / CPR
Start year: 2024
Summary: First Aid training is delivered as a short course of 1-2 days which teaches and tests participants the acquired knowledge and practical skills. Over time, more devices were added and made mandatory for the training. In terms of policy and regulation, there are two main bodies that regulate the various courses available in Australia: 1. ARC (Australian Resuscitation Council) 2. DEWR / ASQA (Department of education / Australian Skills Quality Authority) There is no standardization or consensus for the devices used in the delivery of First Aid training and their appropriateness. Various methods of delivery introduced home made devices, whose calibration or even comparison to manikins used by training organisations is lacking. A recent study (van Duijn & others 2024) listed DIY devices such as bottles, paper rolls, pillows, etc. Large Resuscitation councils in charge of resuscitation policy in Europe and the UK are moving towards democratizing the delivery of training, away from commercial and expensive devices. There is a wide range of manikins available in the market and there is no device that can calibrate them or prove their suitability for training.
