Antimicrobial resistant E coli in wastewater: A genomic analysis across the treatment train.
Start year: 2024
Summary: The last 80 years has witnessed the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistant pathogens driven by the widespread reliance on antibiotics to control infectious disease in clinical and veterinary medicine. This PhD project seeks to conduct a comprehensive longitudinal genomic analysis on approximately 2000 Sydney wastewater Escherichia coli (E. coli) isolates at a treatment plant over 2 years. The research seeks to enhance understanding on how Sydney Water wastewater treatment protocols impact E. coli communities in the treatment train.
