Identifying potential markers of ovarian cancer risk in patients with endometriosis

Start year: 2025

Summary: Evidence shows that a sub-group of patients with endometriosis have an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer, however, there are no prognostic markers used clinically to predict which patients are at higher risk. The identification of markers predictive of a greater risk of developing malignancy will provide opportunities for increased surveillance of endometriosis patients, and therefore the potential to save lives. Based on knowledge of key molecular events that occur in endometriosis associated ovarian cancers, we aim to investigate unique cohorts of primary endometriosis and ovarian cancer specimens in order to detect molecular changes that have been associated with malignancy.
