Summary: This project aims to improve the experiences of dying and death for solo agers with life-limiting illness, and for people who grieve the death of a solo ager. Solo agers are older Australians who, by choice or circumstances, are without the support of close family or friends. We will co-design, test and disseminate practical resources that help with planning, preparation and management of legal aspects of dying and death. These resources will include guidebooks with plain language information on legal topics, checklists that help people identify and take action on legal issues, and audio-visual materials that share personal stories about dealing with ‘death admin’ in the context of solo agers. This project will bring together a team from the UTS Ageing Research Collaborative (UARC) with key organisations that serve older Australians, including COTA, the Older Persons Advocacy Network, Seniors Rights Service and Dementia Australia. The UARC team includes people with expertise in: law and ageing; palliative, aged and end of life care; and human-centred system and service design.
