A study to develop a socio-economic indicator framework for Tonga's tuna industry

Start year: 2025

Summary: Between November 2020 and June 2021 UTS undertook research and consultations with FFA member administrations, relevant stakeholders and experts to develop a draft social and economic monitoring and evaluation (indicator) framework for contributions from tuna industries to regional sustainable development. Between October 2022 and February 2024 UTS undertook a pilot study of that framework in Papua New Guinea (PNG), testing to see how the framework could be mobilized by the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) to evaluate the sustainable development benefits of tuna industries to PNG. FFA has asked us to prepare a proposal to use the framework now in Tonga.
