Socio-economic monitoring of recreational fisheries in NSW – piloting indicators for harvest strategies and related adaptive management processes
Start year: 2025
Summary: The use of adaptive management broadly speaking is a well-accepted best practice in fisheries management, and increasingly being explored in recreational fisheries. In most adaptive management cycles, biological and catch data that informs sustainability objectives are typically prioritised, however there is an increasing recognition that socio-economic (SE) indicators are relevant for achieving a variety of objectives related to both fishery sustainability, as well as the performance of these fisheries in delivering desired benefits to resource users and the wider community. This project will pilot SE monitoring to advance the development of relevant indicators for recreational fisheries, for use in adaptive management of recreational fisheries in NSW.
